Looking at 3D level jobs.

As this is specialisation I think it would be wise to have a look at what jobs would be possible in the future. As I am still not so sure what I want to do and as I lost marks in the project before for not looking into this I feel like I should make a post and see my chances.

Level Designer Intern
id software is looking for an entry level Level Designer eager to join our accomplished team of designers.
Level Designers are responsible for the layout and construction of game environments. In addition to physical construction, id Software also expects designers to proactively contribute creative gameplay ideas throughout the game creation process. The ability to balance aesthetic and gameplay needs with technical limitations is necessary to achieve the breakthrough worlds that id Software creates.
Requirements:
  • General understanding of first person action shooters and the game theory and design principles behind successful examples
  • Basic familiarity with world building tools and/or relevant 3D software packages
  • Self-motivated and focused worker with good communication and collaboration skills
  • Good time management skills and an understanding of and appreciation for milestones, schedules, deadlines, and efficient game development processes
  • A passion for games and gaming
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent team player with very strong work ethic and ability to take and act on feedback
     Desired Skills and Pluses:
  • Familiarity with id Software games, characters, brands, and worlds
  • Exposure to one or modeling tools (Max, Maya, LightWave, Modo or other similar)
  • Exposure to engine specific toolsets (Radient, DEdit, UnrealEd, etc.)
  • General programming and/or scripting experience
  • Traditional art skills / Photoshop experience

Level Designer Primary LocationDescription: United States-California-Los Angeles Area - Santa Monica 
 
The level designer will assist and take direction from design director as needed on any the following: level design from concept to completion, entity functionality, AI layout and all things gameplay-related, camera support needed for game design.
 
Actively participate in required production related meetings and functions as needed.   Attend design-specific discussions concerning design and design issues.  Collaborate with design director, leads and design manager during the product development cycle.
 
Work within the set standard for all level asset creation within the production path as it relates to design, art and otherwise.  Must comprehend a working knowledge of the game production pipeline in order to communicate effectively with other team members.  Basic knowledge of design systems in order to build levels, place enemies, fully understand the relationship between gameplay elements within the level and the overall game and all the ways the player can respond to each gameplay element.
 
Communicate thoroughly to insure good working relationships with the other designers, design director, game director, design manager, art director, lead artist, lead programmer, lead animator, etc...
 
Possess basic knowledge of Maya, engine tools and processes.  Fundamental knowledge of game design and ability to implement 3D environment building, entities, rough cameras, creating gameplay scenarios, using design system tools as needed.
 
Design any element in game including:
puzzles
navigation challenges
building 3D environments using Maya
Modeling and texturing using Maya
creating fun/challenging AI layouts using waypoints
scripting entities
placing rough cameras, including animated and entity-triggered cameras
sound implementation
level warping and gameflow
mime, half-life and cutscene placement and triggering
 
 

Qualifications

 
Required Experience / Education:
1-2 years in game development, or equivalent experience as demonstrated in portfolio of work.
 
Preferred Experience / Education:
2 plus years in game development, with at least 1 years in level design specific role.

  • Expert with math and formulas in game environment

  • Management experience, preferably with an experienced design team
  • Adept with Excel/spread sheets

Technical Artist
Infinity House - London NW6
Infinity House are currently looking for a Technical Artist
As a Technical Artist you will create the 3D models and implement them into the game engine (Unreal Engine 4). You will work in various specialist areas directly in the Unreal Engine 4, and will implement features such as game mechanics and level design.
Your Job:
*Creation of 3D assets
*Visual scripting in Unreal Engine 4
*Integrate assets into the Engine (geometry, animations, special effects, sound, etc.)
*Optimize content and game logic
*Build game worlds and game levels in the Engine
Your Profile:
*A completed university degree or apprenticeship in IT or art
*High knowledge of 3D animation and modelling software (MAYA prefered)
*Experience in a gaming environment
*Knowledge of Unreal Engine 3 (UDK) or 4
*Extremely enthusiastic about the internet and ideally gaming
